Sooner or later, new technologies penetrate almost all spheres of our life, and sometimes they find a very interesting application. For example, recently representatives of the Ruselectronics holding, which is part of the Rostec state corporation, have successfully conducted tests of RFID tags for marking wood of valuable species. This should not only automate the accounting of felling of wood, but also significantly reduce the illegal destruction of rare tree species in the territory of the Russian Federation.
Recall that RFID (Radio Frequency Identification or Radio Frequency Identification) is a method for automatically detecting objects using radio signals. With the help of a radio signal, the data is both read and written to special circuits, which are called RFID tags. They are easy to install and use on almost any object.
In the course of recent tests, close to 100% results were obtained of identifying wood in a truck and a car when read by a stationary RFID portal at a distance of 11 meters. In addition, the tags also withstood a constant load of 1.5 tons and a shock load of 5 tons. Also, the advantage of new RFID tags is that they are able to work in the temperature range from -40 to +65 degrees Celsius. As stated by the executive director of the State Corporation Rostec Oleg Evtushenko,
“The growing global demand for valuable wood provokes an increase in illegal logging, the damage from which amounts to billions of rubles annually. At the same time, logging takes place in huge, often inaccessible areas. For control and accounting of logging an effective solution is the use of modern digital systems. Our tags are a universal solution for marking wood and controlling logging at all stages. ”
At the moment, three valuable species of trees will be subject to marking: oak, beech and ash. Also, RFID tags are planned to be used for marking logs and lumber. The final stage of testing is scheduled for 2019. Later, the system will be commissioned.
