Apple introduced the new MacBook Air, Mac mini and iPad Pro
Every Apple presentation is eagerly awaited even by users who prefer products from other companies. And, although this time the iPhone was not presented, the results of the presentation were pleasantly surprised. iPad Pro pleased with enlarged screens with a compact design, MacBook Air – with their displays, and the Mac mini for the first time became a computer, sufficient for the tasks of professionals.
The iPad Pro’s displays have become bigger – they are now 11-inch. At the same time, thanks to the Face ID, the tablets are quite compact. The new iPad Pro is incredibly thin – just 5.9 millimeters thick. A 12.9-inch version is also available. The tablets in question are equipped with USB-C ports.
The most important feature of the new MacBook Air is the Retina Display. The giant aluminum frame is in the past, and the screen remained 13.3-inch. The full display resolution is 2560 x 1600 pixels. Provided and Touch ID, which has become one of the most interesting additions to the configuration of the Mac over the years.
All these improvements have led to an increase in the price of the MacBook Air, which now starts at $ 1,119 or 104,990 rubles.
Although the design of the new Mac mini has remained familiar, its components have become much more impressive. At least, the novelty uses a fourth-generation Intel quad-core processor designed for desktop computers. An optional version with a six-core processor is also provided. The maximum amount of: RAM – 64 GB, storage – 2 terabytes. Thus, computational performance has increased (at most) five times, and graphics performance has increased by 60%.
There are also four Thunderbolt 3 ports, two USB-A, HDMI, audio and Ethernet ports (including an option that supports speeds of 10 gigabits per second).
Deliveries of new Mac mini will begin on November 7, 2018. The younger version is for 93,990 rubles.
Ilon Musk in a panic
The Reuters publication reported that in June, Ilon Musk fired “at least seven” important Starlink managers. Among the dismissed employees were Vice-President SpaceX satellites Rajeev Badial, designer Mark Krebs and specialists who previously worked at Microsoft. According to Reuters, they are accustomed to longer development schedules and are not ready for the Ilona Mask mode.
At the moment, it is known that about 300 specialists are working on the Starlink project. In January 2015, Ilon Mask stated that after three or four years the number of employees of the company will exceed 1000 people. Having dismissed ineffective employees, Ilon Mask found a replacement for them in the person of more trusted people.
It is known that satellites for the distribution of the Internet will be launched into orbit from 1110 to 1325 km high, which is much lower than the altitude of other similar devices. The speed of the distributed Internet will reach 1 Gbit per second with a delay of no more than 35 ms. For comparison, satellites at higher altitudes are not able to provide a delay below 600 ms.
Tesla – to the WTO
Tesla company allowed the owners of electric cars to repair their cars.
The law, which requires manufacturers to provide guidance on repairing and selling parts, penetrates an increasing number of US states. At first he dealt with electronics and other equipment, but in Massachusetts, he acts on cars. Soon the requirement will spread to other states.
In order not to violate the requirements imposed by law, Tesla has created a special section on the website, describing every detail of branded cars. Spare parts catalog is relevant for the entire model range of the company: Model 3, Model S, Model X and the classic Roadster. The thumbnails on the pages of the section reveal new details about details such as the Tesla Model 3 rear suspension.
The publication of the manual may mean that in the near future, not only service centers, but also simple electric vehicle owners will be able to buy spare parts for Tesla cars. Most of the automakers agreed to provide documentation and parts much earlier, so Tesla’s refusal would look extremely strange.
Robots that are engaged in a variety of “human” affairs (including cooking) will not surprise anyone. But the large global pizza chain Pizza Hut and the famous automaker Toyota still want to try it. And along the way, and change the approach to the delivery of food. The fact is that the companies presented a robot that cooks pizza not in the kitchen, but in a specially equipped car, which at that moment already carries the order to the customer.
The “mobile kitchen” itself contains a refrigerator with pre-prepared products, a robotic supply and assembly system, and a portable conveyor oven that can cook several pizzas at once. Cooked pizza will only be put in the box.
According to the developers, the automated pizza cooking process takes 6-7 minutes. After receiving the order, the first robotic arm opens the refrigerator, takes the desired workpiece and moves it to the conveyor belt of the furnace. When the cooking is finished, the second robotic arm takes the pizza, moves it onto a cutting board, slices it into 6 slices and places it in a box. After that, the driver can take the pizza and give it to the client. But Pizza Hut plans to transfer this system to autonomous cars as soon as they become widespread.
