It turned out that to perform this task, the police Department of new York for three years using artificial intelligence, which copes with it much faster.
Artificial intelligence to search for the robbers
The software is called Patternizr, and its founders are an assistant Commissioner of the Department of the new York police Department Evan Levine and his colleague Alex Oohlas-wood. It took about two years to develop, and the data collected in one decade were used for training. To identify common features of robberies, the algorithm pays attention to the method of breaking doors, a list of stolen items and the scene.
The algorithm began to be used in 2016, but it became known only now from an article in the Forms Journal, where the developers discussed their work. His effectiveness has been proven many times — for example, he was able to link two robberies that were committed in two different parts of new York with a difference of two weeks. The criminal was given his unusual weapon-a syringe with which he intimidated the staff of Home Depot shop.
A manual method of finding matches would take much longer and not the fact that officers would be able to find matches. In the worst case, the robber would still be free. Thanks to Patternizr, instead of hours of work, investigators needed to do just one click.
