It seems that Samsung Electronics intends to continue software support for the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge for at least another year, despite the absence of smartphones in the official list of devices that will receive an update to Android 9 Pie in 2019. This is confirmed by the benchmark Geekbench, in the database which lit up the flagship Samsung 2016 model year with the installed test version of Android 9 Pie.

By releasing Android 9 Pie for the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge, Samsung will make a real gift to the owners of these smartphones, strengthening its credibility in the eyes of consumers. The fact is that most vendors tend to stop adapting Android OS updates for branded devices after two years of support. They explain this by the incompatibility of the software part of the update with the hardware of smartphones three years ago.

When Android 9 Pie for Galaxy S7 will be released

Most likely, Samsung did not include the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge in the list of smartphones that are guaranteed to be updated to Android 9 Pie, because the company’s developers are not sure how the update will behave on the devices three years ago. This means that the Koreans still do not know when the update will be released and whether it will take place at all. It is not excluded that in case of detection of significant problems that hinder the release of the Android Pie 9, it can be undone.

So far, Android 9 Pie has only been officially released for the Galaxy S9 and S9+. Especially for the flagships Samsung has developed a software shell One UI from scratch, which improves the usability of smartphones with elongated displays. It allows you to divide the interface of the operating system into visual and contact areas, which are located at the top and bottom, respectively, having a positive impact on the efficiency of interaction.
