MIT used a biological virus to speed up the computer

Always, when the computer (and any other electronic device) processes data, there is a small delay at, so to speak, transfer of information “from one equipment to another” (for example, from RAM to physical). The more powerful the components, the lower the delay, but it is still there. However, very soon the approach to the creation of electronic devices may change, because scientists from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology have discovered a way to avoid delays. And will help in this virus, but not computer, and biological.

According to the editorial Board of Science Alert with reference to Applied Nano Materials, this virus is bacteriophage M13, which can be useful when used in memory with a phase transition. The fact that the transition of information from fast RAM to physical memory on the hard disk takes a few milliseconds.

But there is a way, roughly speaking, to “combine” both types of memory into one. This is the memory with the phase transition. Only here is there is with this “hybrid” memory one problem: such modules in as a the main material in his composition have antimonide gallium (compound gallium and antimony). And when these devices are very hot, while destroying gallium antimonide.

This is where the bacteriophage M13 came in handy. He is in the course of their life is able to keep from destruction and even re-collect the particles of the GaSb. Moreover, bacteriophage is active even at quite high temperatures. The use of M13 makes it possible to maintain memory performance with a phase transition for a long time. According to the authors, the new memory modules can reduce the delay time from a few milliseconds to 10 nanoseconds. In the future, this will allow you to create computers with much more performance and processing power.
