NASA will broadcast the probe landing on the asteroid live

No sooner had the InSight lander take a break from its landing on the Red planet than NASA is already preparing for another amazing event. The spacecraft Origins, Spectral Interpretation, Resource Identification, Security-Regolith Explorer (OSIRIS-REx, in short) is approaching the asteroid Benn, and NASA will broadcast the meeting live. The very rendezvous of the probe with the asteroid will take place on Monday, December 3. The broadcast will be conducted from the mission control center OSIRIS-REx, so that we can see all the engineers watching the state of the spacecraft.

“Osiris-Rex” will sit on Bennu

The purpose of the device-to land on a space pebble and do its research, and NASA, of course, enthusiastically think about what the device could find. But before that happens, scientists need to first choose a landing site so that OSIRIS-REx has the best chance of success. After carrying out all the necessary measurements, the lander will leave the asteroid and go to Earth with a sample of the material from Benn.

“The spacecraft will spend almost a year researching the asteroid using five scientific instruments to select the location that will be the safest and most interesting from a scientific point of view to collect samples,” NASA explains. “OSIRIS-REx will return the samples to Earth in September 2023.”

Details about the live NASA, which will last about half an hour, as well as about the mission itself, you will definitely find on our website, so check back often. Half an hour will be enough for NASA to confirm the safe landing of the probe. It is not yet known, however, what kind of information we, as viewers, will be able to get from the asteroid Benna.
