What happens if you swallow the head of a LEGO man?

You wouldn’t believe what scientists do sometimes. This time, they decided to figure out how long it would take for a piece of LEGO to pass through an adult’s digestive tract. After all, LEGO is also played by boys with girls over thirty. A team of researchers from several medical institutions in Australia and the UK published the results of their research in the Journal of Paediatrics and Child Health, and explained the reasons for such a study. Well, let’s move down the digestive tract.

Most parents know that, despite their best efforts, children often swallow inedible objects that later find themselves in their feces. Children often swallow coins-and just behind them are small toys. Parents often ask doctors how long the toy should come out. The question, of course, reasonable, because if the child can not get rid of a foreign body, it can cause problems. So the scientists decided to experiment how long it would take a small toy (in this case, a LEGO head) to pass through an adult’s digestive tract. For obvious reasons, children were not used in the study.

After a time, swallowed a toy?

In the experiments, six adults (three men, three women) working in the field of Pediatrics agreed to swallow a LEGO head and then sift through each subsequent bowel eruption until they find a tiny toy. Also, scientists asked them to record their observations — it was interesting to learn how the toy can affect digestion in the process.

As a result, it turned out that the transit of toys on the human body takes from 1.14 to 3.04 days — an average of 1.71 days. Although one person reported that despite serious efforts, he never found his head in his chair. Perhaps he simply missed, or the head of a man forever in his gut.

Scientists admit that they are not sure whether the results for kids will be similar, and also referred to the impossibility of conducting the study “blindly” when volunteers do not know what they are fed and what it comes out.
