Russia is going to build an inhabited lunar base. According to TASS Agency, citing its sources, the RAS space Council supported the project. Last Wednesday, a meeting was held with the participation of the head of Roscosmos Dmitry Rogozin and RAS President Alexander Sergeev, which also considered the General concept of the development and exploration of the moon. During the meeting, the idea of building two observatories on the surface of the moon was proposed.
One will be for the study of cosmic rays, the other will be radio astronomy.
“The RAS space Council today discussed a comprehensive concept of a common program for the exploration and exploration of the moon, starting from the launches of automatic vehicles – Luna-25, Luna-26, Luna-27 — and ending with a manned program, as well as the deployment of stations on the moon, observatories. It was decided to support this concept and continue work on it,” the Agency’s source said.
As it became known, the development of the moon by Russia is planned to be carried out in several stages, starting with the launch of automatic stations. After that, a crew of Russian cosmonauts will be sent to fly around the earth satellite, and then the implementation of the plan to deploy the Russian lunar infrastructure on the satellite will begin.
“Before that, all this was in a separate form, and now it is given in the General concept,” the source commented, adding that the meeting of the RAS Council did not discuss specific terms of launching automatic vehicles to the moon and manned missions to the satellite.
It is planned to finalize the Russian lunar program by the spring of 2019. This was reported by the Deputy Chairman of the RAS Council on space, scientific head of the Institute of space research of RAS Lev Green.
“There was no detailed economic justification of the lunar program, there was a General, initial. And now a detailed economic justification will be made. By March, not the concept of the program will be made, but a large program, maybe this April will turn out, ” Green commented.
Earlier it was reported that the crew of Russian cosmonauts for the first time will land on the surface of the moon after 2030. The duration of the mission will be 14 days. According to the preliminary outline of the road map until 2040, the development of the earth satellite will be carried out in three stages.
Within the framework of the first (until 2025), all the necessary technologies will be tested on Board the International space station. It is planned to create a basic module of the circumlunar station. The Federation manned spacecraft will be tested. In addition, in the framework of the same stage, it is planned to conduct unmanned overflights of the moon by the robotic version of the “Federation” and study the surface of the satellite by automatic stations.
Elements of the Russian segment of the ISS are considered as a possible basis for the construction of a near-lunar orbital station. First of all, we are talking about the hub module, the transport ship, as well as the scientific and energy module, which are planned to be delivered and docked with the International space station in 2022.
As part of the second stage (2025-2035), the development of means of access to the surface of the moon will be carried out (in the future, the circumlunar orbital station will be equipped with takeoff and landing cargo and manned modules for landing on the surface), the first manned flights to the surface of the moon, the creation and placement on the moon of the first elements of the future base.
The third stage covers the time after 2035. During this period, the construction of a full-fledged visited lunar base is expected to be completed. After that, it is planned to start creating a unified system of manned and automatic means for further development of the moon.
