In the city of Hangzhou in Zhejiang Province in eastern China, where the fifth World Internet Conference is currently being held, the world’s first news with the participation of artificial intelligence in the form of an anchorman was revealed. TV presenter, created on the basis of the latest technologies in the field of AI, looks like a man with voice, facial expressions and gestures of a real person. “He” learns to broadcast independently and can read texts as a professional news broadcaster.
The TV anchor was developed through a joint venture of Xinhua News Agency, the official media representative of China and the Chinese search company Sogou.com.
The world’s first TV host – artificial intelligence
According to Xinhua, “he” has become a member of the agency’s reporting team and can work 24 hours a day on the official website and on various social networking platforms, reducing the cost of producing news and increasing efficiency.
First of all, striking is the realism of the new presenter. It is easy to assume that over time it will only improve and the day will come when it will be impossible to distinguish artificial intelligence on the screen from a real person.
They also write that Xinhua created two such presenters – one for news in Chinese, the other for news in English. With the help of virtual presenters that are synchronized with the synthesized voice, the agency can generate news releases around the clock, without needing the services of living people on the screen.
We also recall that in 2017, Chinese President Xi Jinping outlined his plans for the future of the country, calling artificial intelligence, big data and the Internet the main technologies that could turn the Chinese economy into a developed industrial economy in the coming decades. Companies involved in the development of artificial intelligence in the country can count on the full support of the state.
